What is
Social Recreation?
Social recreation refers to activities that we engage in for enjoyment and leisure while fostering social interaction and community connections. It encompasses a wide range of pursuits, from organized sports and group games to arts and crafts, cultural events, and outdoor adventures.
Our Club athletic programs help develop physical fitness, reduce stress, and promote a positive use of leisure time, appreciation for the environment, and interpersonal skills.
We offer indoor and outdoor activities, either in our gymnasium or out on our back field.
Athletic programs here include soccer, football, tag, vollyball, tennis, dodgeball, basketball, swimming, and bicycle riding.
In addition, we participate in and host special events, including National Playday, and clinics with mentoring partners like the Los Angeles Lakers and CSUN.
Triple Play is a comprehensive health and wellness program. It strives to improve the overall health of Club members ages 6-17 by increasing daily physical activity, teaching them about good nutrition, and helping them develop healthy relationships.
In 2016, the Lakers launched Junior Lakers, where the team works with youth in Los Angeles to develop fundamental basketball skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and community involvement.
And in 2024, we are thrilled to announce that our amazing team has emerged as the champions of the Junior Lakers tournament!
Competing against 16 other talented youth teams, our Club showcased incredible skill, teamwork, and determination to clinch the title.
The Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley has proudly participated in this tournament for the last seven years. It is hosted by Richard Harris, the Youth Basketball Coordinator for the Los Angeles Lakers, and received a special touch this year with legendary 8-time NBA champ Robert Horry making an appearance.
